Transducer question
just got a new triton redfish 1860 aluminum bassboat, installed Hbird dfinder and transducer according to instructions with unit. Working fine but the transducer causes a huge rooster tail when motoring down lake.
Question is transducer to high or to low? Depth indicator works ok in spite of this except at fastest speeds: thanks for your help

Normally if the transducer is causing a rooster-tail most would say that the transducer is too low in the water. With an aluminum boat though you may need it that low to work at faster boat speeds as aluminum boats are notorious for producing air bubbles off the hull, and the transducer needs to be lower to get below this. So while raising the transducer may eliminate the rooster-tail; it may also eliminate sonar readings at higher speeds as well.
Which unit/transducer do you have? We made a plug for some of the transducers that fits in the gap between the ‘ears’ on the transducer and the transducer hardware. This eliminates the rooster-tail and may be something that you can try on your transducer as well.

trandsucer problem
Its a 525 bought at wal mart. The transducer bracket will allow me to move it up some, if I have to move down i am in trouble.

By being in trouble are you meaning that the transducer makes a roostertail?
No plug for this transducer (should be the XNT-9-20-T). Is there any way that you could fashion a spray shield over the transducer? Not the best way to fix this but it will keep you dry. LOL! Try making very small vertical adjustments of the transducer and see if you can find a height that works well at higher boat speeds yet does not kick up a roostertail.

transducer problem
by trouble I mean there is some adjustment built into the bracket, I can move the bracket vertically up or down some, utilizing the holes I have already drilled. If I have to go down much, I have to make some new holes, not what one wants to do with his brand new boat!

Get one of these. Works.
Transducer Mounting Plate

CP is right: if you have to drill any more holes it would be best to get one of the transducer mounting plates. That way all new transducer holes are in the mounting plate and not your boat. We even use these on the fiberglass boats here at work (though we make our own).
Try slightly raining the transducer first and if new holes are needed, get the plate.
