Just use an aluminum plate as a backer. Trim it as big as you want with some snips.
I currently have a Helix 7 mounted at the console. Recently I purchased a Helix 10 which I would also like to mount at the console to use with side image or down image. I am planning to use the Helix 7 only as a gps for maps. I am not to familiar with all the different options and techniques for mounting 2 units. I have a few concerns mounting to a hard plastic especially with the Helix 10 because it’s heavy, second I have a windshield and weather or not a expensive unit should hang out beyond the protection of the wind shield? Looking for your thoughts, opinions and or pictures of what worked for you. I’ll include some photos maybe that will give idea of my situation
Current setup with Helix 7
Top of console
Helix 10 mounted high above? Or plastic not strong enough
10 mounted low, and 7 mounted in view for maps? Much lighter to mount to plastic.
Can the unit stick out well beyond the protection?

I would mount the 10 where you currently have the 7 but use a ram mount with the large ball and short arm. Then I would mount the 7 on a ram mount with a 6 inch swing arm where you just show the bracket on the side in your first picture. That is how I have my 10 and 7 set up. Just my 2 cents.

I would definitely use Ram mounts. It makes taking the units off much easier and you won't have to worry about the side nuts on the units eventually waring out.

I mounted mine with a ram mount. I used a piece of treated plywood under the dash. Slightly larger than the ram mount base. I then used liquid nail construction adhesive on top of the plywood. Quite a lot actually. The liquid nail will follow the shape of the dash underneath. I put my bolts in and slowly tightened but not completely just enough to take any slack or wobble out. Then 24-36 hours later I went back a tightened the bolts up good. You can grab the ram mount ball and shake the whole boat and trailer. It’s been on there for 4 yrs or more never had a issue. My does stick out the side somewhat but that’s were I wanted it

Mike..look at the Cisco mounts. I have my Helix 10 mounted on it and it's solid. I agree with the guys suggesting a backer under the dash for support, it will sure help.

If you go with ram mount I would suggest the 2 1/4 inch ball. I got short one but they have different sizes. I also like ebays free shipping
