    Default Electronics installation

I like to install all my electronics. Kinda OCD some say but I had a problem this past week and the labels helped. I labeled every wire from battery to the fuse panel at the console plus every other wire NMEA, Ethernet, power, transducer etc. I also labeled to where they went. Really saved me a lot of time with 4 HDS units and a Xi5.

That should help later also if something stops work right to pin point the problem easily. Wish I had thought to do this before I wired everything up in my boat. I do have everything labeled at the battery fuse box just not the wires.

That’s a smart thing to do. About 25 years back while working in Saudi I was asked to work on a system that Litton corporation had installed but the contract was never completed....even though Litton earned more money from that contract than any contract in the history of Litton.....which is now defunct after its assets were bought by Northrop Grumman in 2001. The system was command and control of the Saudi Air Defense early warning system. Litton left country and the system was in place....but never really worked. So I was asked just to look at one small part of the link. When I opened the interface box, which had a massive cable going into it I was shocked. There were literally hundreds of wires connected to terminals and not a label on a single wire nor were the terminals labeled. I explained to the commanding general that while I might could figure it out but it would take weeks and weeks to ring out all the wiring.....which would take me from the job I was hired to do.......they just said forget it. Who knew that was the kind of work being done for a 2 billion dollar contract. So yes...it’s good to label wires.....LOL.

    Regards

Good idea. I generated a wiring diagram for my pondtoon as I put it together. The smartest thing I did was to install indicator fuses when I wired power distribution. When or if a fuse blows, a led indicator above the fuse illuminates. This helps troubleshooting power problems.

I am the same way. A legend showing what color wires go where can also be handy if some issue comes up midway.
Does not have to be anything fancy to get the job done.
