I bought a V2 on clearance and planned on buying the new i-pilot for it but was told the new would not retro to the older models. Had I known I would have gladly paid the extra $100 I saved to get the new version of i-pilot.

The above comment sounds good, even to me.

Sounds like it came out of Philosophy 101.....

I guess I don't get it. It is called "Business" for a reason. I don't complain when I buy a new vehicle and then another model comes out next year with some new gadget that I cannot get on my "now less than 1 year old" vehicle.

Companies are in business to make money. Case in point: about 10 years ago, I was talking to the McPherson brothers from Mathews Archery. They told me (at that time) they had enough innovations to revolutionize the archery bow undustry for the next 10 years. The probelm was, if they put it on one bow, they wouldn't sell another one for 10 years. My point is you never put all your eggs in one basket. They are in the market to sell equipment. They are building for today but know what they are putting out tomorrow!

Would it be nice if there was actually an upgrade? Sure, it is always nice when we can upgrade an older piece of equipment however, we should not "expect" it to be upgradable. Now, if they told us it would be, and then changed there tune, that would be a little bit different.

So, I guess it comes down to this: If someone say "this thing is awesome, I can't live without it" then it is up to the original owner as to whether they want to ship the cheese on the new model or live with the old one. Just remember, new models of things come out ALL the time. It generates new business. They leave the old stuff out there for awhile and then, poof, it is gone.

I think they would generate more business by offering the upgrade. A lot of people would like the new technology but aren't going to shell out the money for a new trolling motor when they have a perfectly good one.......The have always offered the upgrade on previous versions of the I-pilot and I-Pilot link technology.

1 year for a total like replacement model (Ulterra) is totally ridiculous. This sounds like the first models were crap from the beginning and they knew it. Get it out the door first philosophy always screws the buyers..

Case in point. Wife purchased a New Nissan Altima in 2013. Only difference in her model and the new 2017 model is the cosmetic plastic trim. Engine still the same, wheelbase still the same. Same same same. I can upgrade my gps.

Spot lock on Minn Kota has been crap for years. They and everyone else has known it. Eventually, when they come out with a new model, they stop making the old one. That is just what happens. At some point in time there has to be an "end of life" on a product. Sucks to be the guy that purchased one close to that "end of life". I also have a new Ulterra (less than a year old). I didn't buy it for the spot lock. If that is what I was looking for, I wouldn't have purchased a Minn Kota based on the powerdrive V2 and Terrova I already have.

Purchasing something in the hopes that someday they fix the problem and offer me a solution would not be a sound practice on my part. Some things are upgradable and some are not. Just like with computers, eventually a company stops supporting a particular brand of software because, if they didn't, people would never switch to the newer versions. Does it suck to be the guy that purchased the last of a dying breed end of life unit? Yes, but at some point in time they have to sun down one program to start another.

If changes are not made on products, you would still be driving that awesome Ford Pinto wagon that came out in 1976!
