Go over to BBCboards.net and look on the Humminbird forum. Lots of folks using transformers, I'm sure they can advise you.
I need to set up my ONIX at home to make adjustments/updates and organize waypoints.
I have the HB PC-12 power cable and a gimble mount for the unit. I also have a smaller ATV 12V battery but the wife is scared the battery will blow up in the house :-)
Any ideas how to power a FF on the desktop? Bought a cheap 110V to 12V transformer ($4.95) but will need to cut the tip off and attach to the PC-12 cable; is this the route to take?
Tried placing alligator clips to a PC-12 cable with the ATV battery but the unit never powered up.
Thanks for any help or ideas.

Most converters you would find in your junk drawer from leftover electrical stuff do not put out enough amperage to power Sonar electronics ... They are usually rated 500-600ma (which is 0.5-0.6amps) ...
Go to Walmart and get this in the camping section ... (It's rated at 5amp and ONIX only needs 3amp) ...

Then add a male cigarette plug to your PC-12 ...
Be sure to use a cigarette plug with internal fuse or fuse the positive wire separately ...

Both are great pieces of advice; can't thank you enough.
I like the Coleman transformer idea to keep the wife from overreaction and definately want to view the BBC Boards, I didn't know about them.
Thanks and good fishing, the cooler weather and happy days are coming.

Only now had a chance to get back with the home bench set operations for the Onix and owe a big thanks to both GWDawg1 and Snake N Da Brush. Gentlemen, you were both exactely right.
Joined the BBC Board (great electronice message board) and got the Onix to power up using the Coleman Cooler power converter.
Now I can practice and organize my waypoints; thanks to you both for your help and advice.
