should be about 5 times deeper out of the water.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Make sure that is a 597ci HD DI model Dutch or your DI unit will not read the water depth correctly. Also; test it in the water not on land/air or the sonar will not read correctly.

Beings, you said that the 597 worked fine until you got your new unit installed.i would think that's there only three things could be the culprit. 1....you've damaged the transducer/cable while moving it from the trolling motor to the trandsom.2......your getting interference from the new unit or 3.....your getting rf noise from the new area that the unit/ transducer cable is now located at

    ****Update****

I have my 597 finally working right again...it works much better when you have a good connection to the head unit. It seems that when I moved the 597 to the back of the boat I installed the cable support wrong and it wasn't allowing a solid connection to the transducer. Found this out at the lake Thursday when the power cord kept slipping down and the unit would not power on. Installed the support plate correctly and BOOM, it was reading depth correctly once again.

I feel like a dummy...its always the simple things that bite you in the hind end.
