Smally, the latest update is version 3.6.0

If you bought your unit in the last few years, you likely have the latest update. The unit has been discontinued, so there was only the one update that I'm aware of. Lowrance would not have it on their current website, as they no longer make the E5DSI unit. But, because it "was" once posted ... it only took a Google search to find the old format instructions>

Here's the walkthru for the update : Elite 3.6 - LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics

Use the instructions on how to find what version is already running in your unit, first. Then if your version is not the latest, you will have to have a blank micro SD card (no bigger than 2GB) & card reader in order to transfer the update from your computer to the card & then the card into the unit.

Default Elite 7 units. Please Help!!

I am currently running an Elite 7 and a Elite 7-X unit on my boat. I am so frustrated because I feel like they are just on there for looks. As long as I've had these units I have changed the settings so many times hoping I would stumble upon the correct setting through the process of elimination. I know I'm not getting the most out of these units because and I've come to the conclusion that I don't know how to set them up(novice). I want to run them in the manual mode. Could someone please please tell me where the settings for these units should be for the sonar and downscan in manual mode. I will be forever grateful.

I have both five and seven lowrance elite hdi's ... I have several GPS Waypoints I need to input into my HDI's ..... the one I want to install are in decimals instead of the older degree minutes and seconds format... I have manually taken decimals and gone and converted them to older format... is there any other way to put the decimal format in the unit instead of the other longer way of translating then inserting coordinates

My Elite 5 DSI will not power on. This is the first time I had it out this year. I know there is power because I have 2 units.(Just purchased another from a member) I am running them in my kitchen with a batt charger. Has anyone else had this problem?

Not sure it's a good idea to run the unit off a charger. You could be pushing too much juice and fry the unit, or not enough and the unit won't come on.

I hooked mine up to a jumper battery, and if the clamps weren't tight to the unit's leads ... then it wouldn't come on. Or if the jumper battery wasn't charged up real good, it wouldn't come on, either ... or it would work for awhile and then start fading out. I run it, on my boat, through the trolling motor wiring ... and back when I had a 27series battery, the battery would get weak from several hours of heavy use and the screen would start fading out or the unit would simply turn off from lack of sufficient power.

I'd recommend getting a small 12v battery (like for a motorcycle) if you intend to keep playing with the unit in your home. They cost about the same as a cheap jumper battery (~$30-$35) but can be kept charged by your charger ... (the cheap jumper batteries don't hold their charge very long)

But, I'd find out if the unit is still functional, first ... before spending any money on a battery to use in your house.

Now .... I may be totally off base with this, so I'd suggest waiting for some more replies (from more knowledgeable persons) before taking my word.

Will do Pappy. Thanks for the input. Been having some of the same thoughts myself. I set up a fuse block with a couple of 3 amp fuses in place so I can work on my waypoints inside. I've considered the battery but this has worked well for me???

I've got the Elite 5 ti not dsi but other then the small screen, I have no regrets. I split screen the structure scan and sonar.
And use side scan took find wood structures to fish..

You can also buy a 12v power supply(converter) to use your unit in simulation mode indoors to learn more. I used to run a mobile CB unit as a base station like this. Google 12volt power supply or if you can find a radio shack or cb store local you can get one there
