Our methods couldn't be much more different, but they both seem to work. I have tried trolling and pushing, not really given pullin much of a chance yet. I have been doing well with a slip bobber and minnow. Simple, but it has worked great this summer. BnM 10 foot Sam Heaton Super Sensitive rod, 1" pear slip float from Comal tackle(cheap and unbeatable float for crappie), a 1/0 aberdeen gold hook and a #7 split shot pinched a few inches above the hook. Medium minnows. I flip and pitch the float rigs against standing timber, along laydowns, and especially above and around submerged stumps. I don't stay in one spot for too long unless the slabs are really stacked in tight. I try to cover as much water and hit as many spots as I can, then come back to the good ones. That's not to say I hit every tree. I have a good number of trees and spots that have been producing this year and I make a run of them depending on what the fish are doing from day to day. I guess it's kinda trolling.... one rod style. Biggest thing is I can buy two dozen minnows for the price of that one WM crank that I will inevitably leave on a stump.
