Default First try with a mold

A little bigger than I orginally wanted but I think they'll do nicely. I call them Kracker Jacks and they are for gills and shellcrackers on KY Lake. I can't wait for the black coloring and red glitter to get here!

That one is a 1/16 and I think the hook is a 6. I actually pulled the hook from a store bought bait that I use. I'd like to find these heads in 1/32 and 1/16. I like the smaller hooks for the gills and they are hard to find around here. I plan on getting a smaller mold for the bodies as well, these are just a tad bigger than what I wanted, but they'll do fine with a small head like those.

Those look great. Gills ought to love em.

Thanks. I know these type of baits work, I just haven't found the mold that is perfect as far as size is concerned. I also need to find some number 4 hooks with a 1/16 and 1/32 head. Most of the 1/16 heads I find in stores are molded on a number 4. Also, the collar barb on most are a tad too big and really tear the body up. I really like the smaller hooks, but that makes this bait body a little on the bulky side.

yes it is hard to find the right hooks for those but what I think would work better is if you just used a plain hook and no leadhead hook and just added a small split shot above or no weight at all. That set up generally works best for me if I am fishing for gills. Is this a home made mold or did you buy it

I bought it. It's an injection mold. I may take your advice and do a few up with the sinker idea.

mepperson,
Have you seen CrazyAnglers web site where they have the Matuzo Sickle hooks in panfish size?
Just for your info.

Actually I have but haven't ordered any yet. I have been on their site a few times looking around. I didn't see any pics of the head style I wanted.
