Im intersted in making some boo buckets. I was just wondering how you grow bamboo or do most people just cut it from the creek banks?

friends don't let friends plant bamboo! keep your eyes open as you drive and you'll probably see it. Watch backyards or side yards along lot lines esp. Most folks will be happy to let you cut it.

i've heard you dont want it if you dont have it. it's supposed to spread rapidly and be hard as heck to get rid of. most anyone that have it will be glad to let you cut it.

Bamboo is nothing that you can just plant and harvest. It is in the grass family and needs to let it grow for several years before harvesting, reason is to let it get some season to it and harden.
Bamboo grows by spreading underground rhizomes, roots which are very difficult to eradicate. As everyone who has chimed in and said "DON"T even think of planting it".

I even went as far as to start breakin' up the ground to plant bamboo. Then I started reading how hard it is to contain and decided against it. I would suggest starting a stand around your fishing hole in a discreet low wet area.

Before you start it around your fishing hole I'd suggest you consider who owns it and if not your land, would you want someone to plant bamboo, kudzu or anything else on your land. This is true even if land is owned by state, fed gov or power company....somebodies gonna be stuck with it.

Are there different varites of bambo? There are two patches along the road on the way to work that have been there for years. They don't seem to be spreading out any.

Just cut a 3-4' section with lots of little branches on it next timee it is gonna rain, and throw it in her back yard near the fence. It will start rooting at every node, and there you go, almost instant boo patch. As for letting you come and cut it, she would have to have somebody cut it, and you would do it for free, right ?
