Old Piles

Should a guy add new brush right on top or around old piles We put these piles on ledges in any where from 10 to 13 ft when lake is at normal pool. O r should a guy move 15 to 20 yards awat and just make a new pile? We use all brush do you prefer tops with the leaves or with out?

I have rebuilt many old stake beds. If the old stake bed has produced in the past I add away. If it never produce much I move on. Some of my best fish have come from rebuilt beds. Take care!!

Like ifish Said, If they produce, rebuild them and they will continue or improve. If they don't produce, You have eliminated an unproductive spot. Try another place in that situation. After a while You will find all the productive spots that You can handle putting out brush on. CF

if it is an already proven spot, do not put in a new pile within 30-40 yards. all you will do is divide the fish using them and it will take twice as long to fish them. if it has broken down, then add directly to it or right next to it. the only exception to this rule, is when someone has found it and is fishing the 1st one, then and only then, will I put in another, that close. I will then try to fish the 1st one hard to keep them thinned down to discourage the other guys from camping on it and probably release all the fish I catch on the 2nd one. this only applies to tournament spots. if it's just an eating spot, I'll just fish it like anything else and not worry about it.

right on with crappie10 my best spots have been a low spot on a flat and when people find that you can put brush around it but its not the same as the low spot.

that low spot is probably a drain or wash that runs out to deep water, which is exactly why it is so good. and you are right, being around the deeper spot is not the same as IN the deeper spot.
