I've found that cedar will last a long time if you use a big enough tree. I sank some back in 95 and I still fish it, made it out of a tree about 8" diameter at the base and about 15' long. It lays on it side and I can still mark it. When I look at it with side imaging, looks like it has most of the large branches left. Bet it has 100lbs of jigs on it! Some of them mine. After that many years, others have found it.
A tree that big is hard to tow into place. A sighn of the times in North Carolina is that when I cut and sank that tree, it was woods, now its all $1,500,000 houses every 100' down the shore. Can't hardly take a leak when fishing.
