Default My first PVC Condos

My buddy owns a hardware store so I have a good lead on old PVC. Here goes my first attempt at building condos.

base

use pencil and short pipe to prepare for cutting slot

cut slots with band saw

pipes with slots, these will be the horizontal branches

short white pipe represents vertical base pole
slot in pipe to keep it horizontal

drill prep before heading to lake

shade things

shade things for baitfish hideout

these will be completed on the water using one screw per limb
will post the final result once installed

what u think?

good job, i spent a lot of time and effort putting together some pvc with a bowling ball, but later realized i could cover a lot more area by using the good old bamboo condo. i am not trying to cut down you condos, they are looking good so far, and i think the time spent on something like what you are working on is fun i enjoy it. don't forget to post the final photo

what i have found to be, by far, the easiest way is to take an old tire, set it sideways on ground fill w/ sakrete and put a 3 inch pvc pipe 8 foot long standing straight up in middle of concrete. allow to set and then drill 1/2 inch or 1 inch hole straight thru pvc (evenly thru both sides), staggering your holes all the way up to top. Now take 5-7 foot foot pieces and push thru your holes. You can lock'em in w/ pvc liquid bondo but they really can't go anywhere. You now have a pvc tree that works great. And they are VERY hard to know over. The centrivical force ( I think) makes them always want to stand upright. Rough up up w/ sandpaper before you drop them and algae will really take hold. Just my 2 cents worth.

thanks 4 the info ya'll.

I remember hearing about roughing them up with sand paper but had totally forgotten about that... I'll def rough'em up, thanks.

it's not really that much work, I'd say about a 2 hours to build 4 condos including the final assembly on the water

it's easy when you have access to all the tools you could ever need like in my Pop's wood shop. he has band saw's, table saw's, radial arm saws, miter saws, belt sanders all kinds of sanders, planers, lathe, many cordless power tools... on and on

a friend of mine has bamboo growing like crazy so my next condos will be bamboo.
