Default What about wire?

We are changing our gardening a little bit, and have about 20 tomato cages that I don't really need. I've heard of guys throwing old bales of woven wire fence out for structure, what about cages? I really have no idea how long metal like this would last under water. Does anyone have any ideas?

Default Great Structure

What I would do is anchor them around my other condos. Be sure to mark there location with your gps. You don't want to fish in then but they will keep more fish in your area. Also knowing there exact depth will let you troll over the tops of them.... and might keep others away from your good area if they think its all snags. My two-cents

thanks for the advice.....but, I've never seen a hook penetrate metal. That's why I thought it would be easier to come off of versus wood. As long as a fellar didn't jerk like Jimmy Houston, I would think you could let a little slack and jiggle to come loose. I also came across some old artificial Christmas trees, and was thinking the same thing. I hate being ate up with fish, I prefer to eat them up.

I've got a ton of pvc. I work for a rather large piping and contracting company. Right now there's about 3000' of 8" water line that is laying around ready to be scrapped.

use that man there is a ton of threads in here with ideas for pvc structure, it lasts forever and is virtually snagproof and you can do so many different things with it, and plus it doesnt show up well on alot of the new fish findrs so once you have it in your gps itsa pretty safe.. shoot if you were closer to me id be more than happy to take it off your hands lol

Not sure how big the crappie are there, but if you hooked a big one inside the wire, you wouldn't be able to get him out without lifting the whole basket out of the water....

I think I would just find someone who could use some tomato cages and not put trash into the lake. I saw this winter where someone who had put some of that woven wire in the lake and it just looked trashy. It was all rusted and looked like a tetanus on stick to me. I personally would not do it but to each his own I guess.
