This looks similar in concept to SOS (Stucture on a String) - basicly a artifical weedline.

I wonder when that article was published. That is where I got my idea of making the plastic trees. I put my first ones out in 1988. My original design is still one of my best and I still catch fish out of them. I split the nursery black flower pots down the side where each hole is located. Then I put a hole in the middle of the bottom and run a telephone wire or cable tv wire through it. I usually use 2 pots per tree. Next I tie a 2 liter bottle on top and a weight on the bottom. The whole thing is about 6' tall. I will put 8 to 10 in a spot and they really catch the fish. To keep the pots flattened out like an umbrella, I use a propane torch to heat them and they will stay flat.

Tommy Tidwell, now that is a cool idea. I cant tell you how many times I've thrown those away. Not anymore. That is so simple to make and easy to carry in the boat and easy to deploy. I was going to do the Boo, since my Brother has a huge supply. I think these look to be easier on the back and less sweat involved in making and setting out. Great idea!

What size nursery pot do you use?
They tend to get thicker and less pliable as the size goes up.

I use the ones that they call 5 gal but they are really probably about 2.5 gal. When flattened out, they are about 2.5 feet in diameter. I use the scissor type hedge trimmers to split them down the sides. It works pretty well.
