    Default Buckeye Boo

I am very happy to tell you southern guys after all this time of envy I finally found a species of bamboo that will grow in Ohio. This patch was very large and very tall. The ole gal who owns it would not let me cut any but the lovely lady gave me a bunch of starts and said it spreads like wildfire. So in the near future I just might have some boo condos of my own.

I hope you know what you are in for... it grows like wildfire, but it also spreads like it also.

It can easily become a nuisance. You'll be begging other guys to come get loads of it too, for their crappie beds :D

One trick to help control the spread is to use a chain style trencher (you can rent them at most tool rental stores) and to dig a 24" trench around the area you want to grow in. Then use rock salt in the trench and mix it with the fines as you backfill. The rhizomes don't seem to like the salted areas much, so they don't grow into it.

I think planting boo on your own property is opening pandora's box. Garaunteed(whatever) to be the biggest yard care headache you've ever dealt with. Bamboo and time are 2 things you can kill but never die.

Thats why I planted it on my neighbors property, Just Kidding. I will let it go for a while then put containment around it. I have 5 acres and don't care if it get crazy,I want bamboo.

Everyone keeps saying don't plant this because it is so invasive, but here in oklahoma I have found around 10 different patches around okc and people protect the stuff like a momma pit bull protecting her young, they will flat shoot you for looking at it!

I don't think it will grow quite that crazy in Ohio because of the winters.
