Thread: Buckets with wood stakes

I would recommend at least 5 placed fairly close together but the more the better. This is just my option so try it and let the fish tell you if you need more.

Fish habitat "built it and they will come".

Depends on you. I put 5 to 10 per spot . I like lots of small spots verses a few big ones .

If you put them in a line if lake rises buckets cover or hard to find.In a circle eaiser to find or locate.we try to take a bucket out every time out.will be surprised how fast they add up over time.cannot have to many.

Easy for us to haul about 8 to 10 when we go fishing . Before long you will have lots of spots . Like Jackie said a little more trouble to build but easy to deploy alone .

if you are dropping them into mainly 6-9 ft. of water, do you care whether they sit up or fall over, or do you care either way?

I don't mind if one or two fall over. I think sets of 5-6 are just right. 1st pic is a set of 5 buckets I built last August, the second pic is a screenshot of them the next day after they were dropped and the last pic is from last week! I have em placed in the water just about like the 1st pic but maybe a little wider apart. Lake is up since last year when I dropped them. You can see one of them fell over. I also found that it all depends on location. I have some places I dropped stuff and doesn't pay whereas I have other places that I have dropped stuff and does pay. These wooden stake beds are some of my best producers on the lake that I have put out. I got told on back in January and had an unpleasant conversation with the game warden at the lake and no longer drop structure in this lake. Make sure it is legal 1st or be real sneaky.

They stand up better in mud it seems and if you spread stakes out the most you can . . That way they won't lay flat on bottom if they turn over . Using red Cedar or Oak should out last us .

I prefer them standing up, 5-6 is perfect. From friends I've fished with, seems like they become catfish magnets when they fall over. Here's a pic of fish holding on a few of mine.
