I have done that too . Used cheap bacon or box of ends and pieces . Makes great ground meat . Some stores still sell beef fat which we use for this and summer sausage also.
Wow! I ground up some deer(venison) 7# and mixed it with some hickory smoked bacon3# made 10#. The mix was a 70% ground deer with a 30% ground bacon mixture if you want to make more. I also really like the hickory flavor so I added some hickory smoked salt also to taste. All I got to say about this is "try it you will like it".

I also made some breakfast pan sausage. 50% deer(venison) and 50% pork butts ground and added legg's sausage seasoning. Makes for some great tasting sausage.

If you can find a butcher or restraurant that will sell you the fat trimmings off steaks you should try that. That's the best venison burger I've ever had.

If you see any Cain’s sage breakfast sausage spice, grab it,it’s our favorite!
We use ground deer and 25-30 % pork butt.

Hamburger $7.00 a pound . Thought I was through hunting this year ,maybe not .
You are correct. Been eating bacon deer burgers for decades. Can’t go wrong with them. Local processor makes them into patties so you can cook only as many as you want without having to thaw out more than you want for a single meal. Love em for mid day lunches. Thx for sharing.
