Just looking to see if anyone might have a mockup recipe for Captain D's or Long John Silvers fish batter recipe. Any suggestions/ideas?

I'll have to look for the brand, but there's a boxed batter that Kroger sells that is pretty close. I've used the "beer batter" and it was good.

* 1 egg
* 1 cup ice water
* 1 cup all purpose flour
* Salt & Pepper to taste
Preparation:
Beat an egg in a bowl. Add ice water in the bowl (leaving out ice). Be sure to use very cold water. Add sifted flour in the bowl and mix lightly. Be careful not to overmix the batter. Should be a little lumpy. Dip in filet, place filet in 350 degree oil, repeat process. It's an english type batter that you are asking about but I gave you a TEMPURA batter that is just as good if not better.

Try this one- it's called "111"
1 measure of corn starch
1 measure of Bisquick
1 measure of liquid eg. Water, Beer, chicken stock, milk
"fine tune" batter thickness 'til it will just drop off a spoon- deep fry in oil to your preferred golden brown color.
Using malt vinegar to flavor will give you the English "fish and chips"(Arthur Treacher's) result.

McCormick makes a Beer Batter. Local Walmarts did carry, but just stopped. It's the closest thing I have found to what you are looking for. Frys up crisp and the kids love it.
