    Default Okra and Tomatoes Receipe

Does any Crappie.com folks have a good okra and tomatoes receipe? I grow fresh tomatoes (I love them) and a somebody at work gave my wife some okra. So I have fresh okra and fresh tomatoes ready to go into my mouth and I need to have a idea how to make it happen. None of my searches on the internet have found a receipe that looks good to me. I know crappie.com folks know how to cook country and that is the best. Thanks, Wes

    Default One from Paula Deen

4 slices bacon, diced into small pieces
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
    1 tablespoon chicken base
    1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups fresh okra, cut into 1-inch pieces (may use frozen, if fresh not available)
    Fresh ground black pepper
    Directions
Cook bacon slightly. Saute onion and garlic with bacon until tender. Add tomatoes, chicken base, sugar and pepper. Stir well and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed. Meanwhile wash okra and remove fuzz if using fresh and cut into pieces. Add the okra and simmer until okra is done, about 20 more minutes (less if using frozen okra.)

Thanks Hawkman. That is exactly what I was looking for. Garlic and bacon, you can't lose with that combo. I have a question, my okra is fresh, and I have never prepared okra. Is there a easy way to remove the fuzz or will it come off when I wash it?
    Thanks again Hawkman, Wes

I fix okra maybe once or twice a year. All I do is wash it good, I think that gets most of it.

Default okra and tomatoes (sort of )

My mother would fix okra a couple of times a week. She would boil the stuff. I had to drown the slop with CATSUP just so I could eat it.

    another quick way.

cut up really ripe tomatoes into little pieces and okra put in a bowl and add just enough flour to hold it togehter. then fry like making potatoe cakes.:D

Thanks Hawkman for the help. I am giving it a try today or tomorrow. Crappisaurusrex thanks for the recipe that sounds good to. You can't go wrong frying food. I have tons of tomatoes but I don't know if I will have any okra left. Okra tomatocakes that sounds like a killer idea. Again thanks, Wes

I made the Okra and tomatoes last week using Hawkman's recipe from Paula Deen. It turned out really well. I think next time I will skip the tablespoon of sugar, it make it kinda sweet. It is amazing how much sweetness one tablespoon of sugar adds. It was great recipe and I used all fresh ingredients including Vidalia onions so that added some great flavor. Thanks Hawkman and everyone else for your help and comments. Wes
