• I should never have left Alabama

I'm going to start this story a little backwards. Like the title suggests, I shoulda stayed in Alabama. I was at Alabama Crappie.com camp at Weiss Lake this last weekend, and shoulda just stayed there. When I left I went to Billbob's in Indiana, and lookie what I woke up to:

This is the light fluffy stuff. It's not that big a deal. It's more pretty than anything.

But driving in this stuff stinks.

And there was more to come. From Billbob's, I headed off to my most northern destination, my (soon to be sold) house at the Illinois/Wisconsin border. There we got more snow. And this was the bad stuff. Freezing rain turned to snow, and temps turning way cold. I hate this stuff. If anyone has ever had to scrape this stuff off your car windows, it really stinks. The sound it makes is terrible. I'm actually lucky I found a long handled scraper in my garage which I had not thrown out yet otherwise I never coulda cleared my truck window to drive it. I woulda had to wait a half hour while it ran and got warm inside. This was Mother Natures April Fools joke on me. It knew I had escaped to Florida and this was it's last chance at one more jab at me with the ice/snow storm! And the worst part was, the ice ans snow were so bad the city dropped salt all over the roads. I hate salt more than I do snow. It eats cars up alive! And now my truck that's never seen salt is getting it all up into it's undercarriage. I would not have driven anywhere but I had a doc appointment, so I had to go. Mother Natures cruel little plot against me. It knew I just blew $570 two weeks ago to replace salt eroded/rusted brake lines on a car of mine which originated here in the salt belt. Now it was gonna throw salt at the only "non-salted" vehicle I had. dang it, dang it

So OK, rant over. I guess it coulda been worse. Everything will be alright, the salt is nothing a little rain water can't wash off. Back to sharing Alabama Crappie.com camp pictures. The pic above is when we first arrived. That's Abbey's puppy named Pepper. This was his first fishing trip with me.

I met up with Bama S and the rest of the gang at https://www.cowancreekresort.com/ where we went next door to eat. Oh, by the way, Cowan Creek Resort now stocks Slabsauce so if you're in the neighborhood and need some, you know where to go.

The next morning Bama S and I (and Pepper) went fishing with HarryO. And here's what happened. We caught nothing, nothing, nothing, for the first three hours while we had Bama S on the boat. Once he got off (he had to leave for another commitment) Harry and I got into the fish. At least that day, Lee proved to be difference. Just say'in. Hopefully he used up all his bad luck on that trip and is good to go now. lol

Furflyin and Slabprowler got into a mess. I caught Furflyin a little late with that first pic. Got the messy after shot! doh

The event turned out great. Lots of great food, lots of great people. RodgerA's Apple pie was unbelievable, and it also disappeared unbelievably quick! Shoulda just stayed in Alabama after all. See y'all next time.

I have that state on my radar for next winter, I hate salt. Had to have new brake lines for the Silverado.

Nice post Slab. I know what you mean about the salt and vehicles. Its a good thing there are crappie and crappie fishermen to keep our minds off bad things like salt on our vehicles and all the other things that are not fun in life.
