• Lifetime achievement today

Well, had to work today...Wife and I had talked about a short fishin' trip after work to get her out of the house to enjoy the great NC weather. Wind was blowing like a mini-cyclone all day, not to mention I was tired and could have easily found myself on the couch after work. Really wanted to spend time with her so loaded up and went. Didn't get to the lake until 4:15pm so had approx 2hrs to fish. First couple holes were so windy it was tiring to fish. Found a spot out of the wind and caught maybe 20 fish with two being just a tick over 2lbs. Having enough for a good meal plus the size of a few of them made our trip worthwhile. Last stop before loading up we made a few cast when she hooked into what I assumed was a nice largemouth. Pulled drag and was trying desperately to get under the pier we were fishing. I tightened her drag a touch and all of a sudden, there IT was. A crappie....Not just a good one, but a really good one. Knowing she has very little fishing experience I almost grabbed the rod from her but thankfully, I didn't. She fought it like a champ and I was able to net the fish. My older scale showed 3.7 lbs but I took to a local bait-shop to get a more accurate weight. Came up at 3.42 lbs and 17.5" long. We decided to donate the fish to be tagged and released for an upcoming multi-week crappie tournament.

This lady has put up with me for over 31yrs (almost 28 married) and never wants or expects to be in the spotlight for anything. She has blessed me with two children that are all grown up now. She is and has always been what God intended her to be. She has supported me through one mid-life crisis after another and is always willing to do anything as long as it allows us to spend time together. I'm so proud of her and it's means way more to me that she caught it rather than me. I've chased these silly fish for 40 years and don't yet have one 3lbs or bigger. I don't think she really knows what an accomplishment this is.

Oh yeah, these fish were caught using SLABSAUCE. I don't leave home without it anymore.

Congratulations to your wife on a very nice catch. Letting her handle the catch is the way to go. Win or lose it is always the best way to go.
