• Very interesting day!

Very interesting day! For the past 2 1/2 days, we've had torrential rains and wind. Today the storm finally broke and the weather people predicted a very nice day with plentiful sunshine and temps in the upper 60's. Sounded good to us, so Walt & I launched this morning around 9 am. We pulled off at 1:30 pm.

The air was very cool to start with, almost frosty, but a strong thermal breeze kept the frost and the fog at bay. Water temp was 56 degrees when we left the ramp and started to fish about 9:15 am. Water was up a good 2 1/2 to 3 feet! So, we started out casting the shallows with a very light breeze from all directions.

I wish I could say that we did well today, but I cannot. All we caught were dinks......shallow, deep and in-between depths. Total tally for the day was 17 with a fairly equal mixture of small yellow perch and crappie. Of course, we got a few bluegill as well, but nothing that warranted a picture. Except for the following shot of what we saw at various depths. Baitfish a plenty! But no decent fish was interested in anything - or anywhere - we hit them with. Here's a mid morning shot of what we were looking at:

Can't tell you how excited I got when seeing these screen shots of what I knew were decent fish and bait. However, Walt failed to bring along the grenades - again - so we didn't do very well. And it wasn't like we only hit shallow areas or deep areas. We hit them all. Casting and drifting with straight tails, paddle tails and Road Runners. Changed baits and colors often, but to no avail. Just wasn't our day I guess? But it was a beaut of a fall day. And we were paid a visit by the eagles at various times which made it all the more pleasant. Hopefully next time we knock their socks off! (Dream on!)
