• A Behemoth Lurks the Waters

Just getting over the shakes I've had the better part of the day due to the "ONE" that got away. He took a beetle spin & felt like a log, til' the head shake at the boat when reaching for the net & into the depths he slipped away. Not sure of estimating the size, but the 16" fish landed today dwarfed in comparison, needless to say he or she is still out there. Only caught 20, however, 4 other 15" fish joined the party with the 16". As with previous years November is the best opportunity to catch the bigger fish on this body of water. Dang...... .do I got the crappie FEVER now !

These Black Crappie on the St. Johns water system are some of the most beautiful Crappie anywhere. I don't know if it's the slight salinity of the water, or just the clear spring fed waters. Prolly both. Don't know if'n you all know this, but it's the only river in the USA that runs North, not South.

Biggest crappie I've caught came on a Beetle Spin on an oxbow off the St Johns near Deland.

Slab, the Tennessee River and the Cumberland River both run north. Both of these rivers form KY Lake and Lake Barkley.

That sinking feeling that goes with it stays with you a long, long time. Even so, not knowing until you get it in the boat is what makes your heart jump up in your throat. My guess is you'll be after that one again. Hope you get it & share it with us. Good Luck!
