It’s nothing better than view pictures or video of your outdoor adventures. I like to go back and pull out them when it’s too cold or hot to be outside, I get nearly the same thrill as when I experienced the event. A few years or so ago I purchased a GoPro action camera with all the bells and whistles. It cost a pretty penny for the camera, extra batteries, mounts, and cards. Man, I thought I was ready to do some videos.
My first trip out was a disaster. Not long after I got started the battery died. I swapped batteries and back in business, then I lose Bluetooth connection. The problem with most action cameras is the short battery life and the expensive batteries. A high-end GoPro camera can cost upwards of $600 with a few of the basics (mounts, battery packs and cases).
During a recent trip to ICAST I ran across a new fairly inexpensive action camera called a WASPcam. Their best camera the WASPcam 9907 4K and a few options can be purchased for around $300. It comes standard with an assortment of mounts. Purchasing a second battery is fairly inexpensive and it can be purchased from any battery outlet. I like open source purchasing, saves you lots of money.
This camera can record HD video in 1080p up to 60 fps. It also can capture 20MP still photos. It comes with a wireless wrist remote and built in wifi. This camera has a downloadable mobile app and it features Auto Looping that allows you to only save the action shots, which save SD card space and post editing time. This camera is waterproof down to 98 feet, I can stick it down in the water for unbelievable videos. The main feature I use a lot is the built-in LED Safety Lights for recording in low light situations.
I couldn’t use my GoPro on hunting trips because of the noise it makes when turning it on. It would spook everything in the woods. The WASPcam is quiet when turning it on. The game never knows you’re out there.
Another item I added to my video arsenal is the AquaStickPOWER (USBx2) by YOLOtek to mount my WASPcam. I plug it directly into my navigation light ports on my boat and I get some awesome videos. It stays securely mounted as I travel down the lake at high speeds. I never have to worry about batteries because I can plug the USB connection directly to my WASPcam and it draws power from my navigation lights.
I can extend the AquaStick from 32.5” up to 53”. This produces great videos with a panoramic view to capture the fish strike, the fight and landing the biggest fish of your life. With the ball and joint mount, I can video from any angle. Sometimes I use two AquaStickPOWERs and two WASPcam cameras to produce professional quality videos similar to some of the fishing shows. With the AquaStickPOWER, WASPcam Camera and a 64GB microSD card you can record video all day long.
The AquaStickPOWER can be connected to any sports camera including GoPro, VIRB, iON, smartphone, any camera and of course WASP. The POWERStick won “Best In Class” at ICAST and AquaStickPOWER won “Top New Product” at the Bassmaster Classic. It solves the main problem using action cameras, “Dead Batteries”.
