I bought one of these with a gift card to do some catfishing. Anyone using these? Are they good? What rod would you suggest using? Thanks.

i have two of these reels. nice reels. ugly stick makes a nice catfish rod. about 39 dollars at walmart.

if your going after channels then a good choice may be a ugly stick something around 7ft.6 or even 8 feet but i have quite a few trophy cat rods geared up for bigger cats with ambassadeurs and penns those trophy cat casting rods are garcia blanks and have great action not to heavy either ...they are made by wildcat products and available at cat fish connections i believe hope we helped

Went for the 7ft Ugly stick. What kind of line are you guys using? Doesn't braided line control backlash a little better?

i refuse to use braid myself but thats just an opinion i only use cajun red

The 6600cl is a hard reel to beat you will like the thumbar cast control , we use 9' & 10' toughsticks out of a 24' pontoon boat.
