I used the egg sinkers for 40 years on Carolina rigs. Today I use the round disk sinker with the brass eye and a sinker slide. Egg sinkers will get hung up more because they will roll downriver in a current and normally end up hung in debris. Don't think the sinker is hanging but your hook. There are several advantages to the round flat disc sinker with a sinker slide. One they clip on and off so you can change sinker weights without having to re-tie the rig if you want to add or lower the sinker size depending on the amount of current. Two because they are flat, they will not roll in current like the egg sinker. Once your egg sinker starts rolling downstream you can bet it will find something to get hung up in. Egg sinkers are still good if person is fishing straight down current but if you are fishing across the current they will roll.

I've been using egg sinkers as long as I can remember, but that was always lakes, ponds, still water. I fish the river and creeks now with a good current so I'm switching over to the no roll sinkers. I was actually looking to buy some sinker molds and just start pouring my own now. You'd think the price of sinkers now they should be gold plated

No rolls move downstream less and don't migrate into rocks as bad as the eggs or bass casting sinkers. Ken's Tradewater Bait Company in Lake City, KY has the best prices locally on pored lead but I've bought a ton of no-rolls from eBay before with very competitive pricing. I still use bank sinkers for drifting or 3 way rigs.

Plus I have noticed....."No Rolls" catch water resistance when reeling them in really fast causing them to come to the top of the water quicker. I like this because I can cast in on structure and if i dont catc a fish and want to pull my hook in I start reeling like heck and it comes almost straight to the top of the water...instead of dragging thru the water. Less hang ups I have noticed.

have my own egg sinker mold and when I want to use a no roll sinker I just slip a piece of wire in the hole and beat the sinker with a hammer and flatten it. I also have made no roll sinkers by taking beer bottle or pop bottle caps and set a swivel on the side of the cap, slide the cap under my lead furnace and fill it. They have worked well so far.
