I have hooked them up live; then cutoff head after they expire. I might try that this year after a day with the grandkids.

Man, I'm gonna be honest, I don't catch anything with bluegill heads. I don't know, maybe I need to soak it in some transmission fluid or something.

A fellow that I know has commerical fished most his life and he swears by a blue head. I personally haven't ever caught one on a head.

I use small live Bream in order to catch yellow cats...
Channel cats we use fresh Crappie Backbone this works the best.... don't use frozen or previous frozen ones they just don't work...

If you want to go after record cats use live gills.

For Flatheads there is no better bait than live Bluegills/Perch. Bigger the better. least where i come from

Blue's though is shad; live, fresh same day dead whole, same day cut in that order.

    Channel Cats i never target

Use bluegill heads on trotline, catch blues and channel cats. Sometimes maybe a flathead. Flatheads seem like they might like live bait better, some member of the sunfish family.. agree with above post on the bigger the better as far as sunfish go!
