I like to use the pool noodles bc you can pack about 30 in a garbage bag and plus when you roll them up you just place the hook back into the noodle but I do recommend to buy yellow ones bc at night they show up better than other colors. now it doesnt take a very big fish to take it under but I have found that most of the time when I have a fish on it is laying flat until I get close to it. and a lot of times they get tangled up into something but I love jug fishing and it is easy!!!!

20oz bottles, spray painted flourescent orange, braided masonry line, 6/0-8/0 offset J hook (eagle claw), 2.5-15' No rhyme or reason. Seem to catch my share. Up to 23lbs with no problem. Had a couple large gar as well. I like em to take it under a little bit. Ive tried milk jugs, half gallon milk jugs, one liters, etc.....none seem to show those 2lb fish well. Cant use live bait here on a set hook, so 20lbs is upper end of set hook (jug, trotline, limb line) range. Theyre fun when you do get a larger fish on though.

I go jugging every Friday night, it is my therapy! Love it!

Heres my jugs, they have a spool for adjusting the length of line out and to also store the line on. Also built in receiver hole for a 8" glow stick that allows you to see them at night easy.

I try to find some one with left over 1/2" pvc pipe or you can go to lowes and get a cheap grade of pvc and you put in the center of the pool noodle and then run your line through it and it helps to put some weights on the bottom of your line and when your done just hook it back into the noodle. now far as storing them in a trash bag when you get them back home you need to let them air out b/c they will stay wet and rot your line. and also use a steel hook bc if you get a big one on and it gets hung up in structure they will bend the hook and get off.

I like the funnoodle and Pvc pipe jugs but us Texas boys have to have white jugs. I wrap mine with white Duck or duct tape. have to put name, address, phone and date that it was put out. I use a u shaped wire to hook the braided masons line to with a giant swivel. Five feet is the lenth of line I find works best for me. and then with and 3/0 hook connected to the line and best bait on Caddo is Hot Dogs that I have soaked in
Garlic Powder. Throw them out of the way to the Crappie grounds and pick them up on the way back. Fresh catfish and Crappies yum.

I grew up jug fishing using nothing but bream for bait. All my lines were no longer than your arm since you'd sometimes have to reachg down to grab a fish that had tangled your line in the brush out in the water. Lines on mine are still the same length, but what little I ever fish 'em now I just use cut herring for bait. Lake is full of herring now where there werent any back in the day.
