    Default my carp rigs

my rods are 2 piece 9ft spinning diawa surf rods they have a long really comfortable small handle about as big around as a nickel maybe a tiny bigger i got a great deal on 6 so thats what i bought the handles were just the slick blank so i added rod wraps and they turned out really nice

the reels are Penn bait feeder spinning i love them because you can really adjust the drag on the back of the reel so you can set the line out it dosent affect the fight drag thats on the front of the reel its really sensitive so it takes hardly nothing to pull the bait feeder out so those really shy carp dont feel resistance from the reel at all and drop it i got the medium sized ones and they match up perfect with those rods and loaded with bearings also mine have i believe 11 and 1 roller they are smooth as silk

as for line i just spooled the main spool with 15 pound fluorocarbon and the extra back up spool with 30# Cajun red advantage for when im gonna fish a place with a lot of cover so i can hoss them in i also use 20# fluorocarbon leaders and 50# braid leaders with the Cajun red

i only use no roll sinkers for carp and flathead catfish i make my own so i usually have them and fun to make also i hate how bad those other sinkers like bank and barrel sinkers don't stay where you cast them power swivels super small in size but they are cheap they are tiny compared to those big brass ones and 50 times stronger i use small hooks no bigger than a #1 even for big carp remember their mouths are rather small compared to something like a crappie of a flathead catfish lol my favorite go to rig is a simple Carolina type rig with Palomar knots

so anyone who loves to carp fish lets hear your rigs and ways you like to fish i know this is a crappie site but with these other topics open lets get some movement on these boards i know im not the only one who enjoys catching them big ole carp when were not doing some sort of other fishing

Most of the time, I float fish for whatever species I'm after. Carp are no exception. Although I will occasionally fish a swimfeeder, I usually fish a waggler float in still waters and an Avon float in rivers. (This weekend, a friend and I fished a waggler "float leger style" in Lake Sinclair. We caught four carp -- three nine-pounders and a 15-pounder. The big boy was mine. )

My rods are all 12-footers. I have several match rods, a barbel rod and a couple of feeder rods. I use the barbel rod the most because it has two tips -- a float tip and a feeder tip. I have two Daiwa Tierra 3000 reels. They are great! For river fishing, I use a centerpin reel whenever possible. They are very fun to use, and they give you incredible control of both the float and the fish.

I finish off with 6-10# line and hooks in the 6-12 range -- smaller than what most people use for bluegill.

I also use a 48' take apart pole. It's rated for 6-8# line. I have taken carp to the mid-teens on it.

hey sounds great i have heard of fishing carp of floats i just didnt know it was so affective i will have to take your word and try it sometime

maybe you could tell me we have been catching alot of carp with these parasite like eels on them what are they are those lamphrey if so im gonna start keeping them for catfish bait they seem to attach their selfs like a leach does but these are eel looking creatures lol all have been about the same size under a foot long and a little bigger than a wooden pencil some detach their selfs close to the bank but most we have to pull off

and those are some nice setup centerpins are definately fun i myself only own one though

Yeah, floats are great. Some carp fishermen only use floats.

Can't help you on the eels -- never saw that before. It must be a local thing.

    Default I LOVE carp fishing!

I didn't know this site had a carp fishing section until now! I love my pan-fishing, but I LOVE my carp fishing. My persional best is 23".

    My rig is simple :

#2 bait-holder hook tied with either a Palomar knot or a clinch knot whether I have enough time lol.

And a BIG split shot that weighs around 1/6 OZ pinched on/bitten on about 4" up from the hook.

I also will use a 1/8 OZ egg sinker, and a 1/6 OZ split shot on my Shakespeare Tiger to get added distance to my cast. I have been catching carp for 2-years and already have caught around 15 or 16 since then. This year, I caught a 19 3/4", 23", 16", 15", and a few others that got off, one of them was around at least 20". But when Fall comes is when you catch all the carp. They are nesting and will suck dough baits in their mouth quicker than you can say "I gotta carp!". At that time of year I've had my dad break a carp off on 8 lb. line. It snapped it like a twig. I catch all my carp on dough bait my dad makes. I hate corn. It's never worked for me.

What kind of knot do you use to tie on the under-side of the swivel where you're going to tie your hook? Some kind of loop-knot? Someone send me a link to a good knot please.

I have 3 rigs I fish for carp with. One is a Silstar 8' surfcaster spinning combo spooled with 15 lb. test line. Another is an Ambassadeur 5000 baitcaster reel spooled with usually 12 lb. test on a 7' Ugly Stick Lite. Then I have a Zebco 808 Hawg Buster spincast combo on a 7' Rhino reel. I use a Carolina rig with about a 2' leader. I like homemade strawberry Jell-O doughballs on about a #6 doughball treble hook that has the spiral wire baitholders.
