this job turned out to be a pain in the but. the shifter box on my javelyn is behind a false wall with very little room to get my hand. i managed to get it done and i am really glad i decided to replace both cables while i was at it because i don't want to do that again. the shifter moves a lot smoother now than it used to i think the cables may have been slightly bent do to the tilt and trim or maybe it was just a matter of no lubricant i don't really know but it does work smoother now

tip for anyone doing this job it is very difficult to get the shifter box back in the hole in the boat wall i put the bolt that hold shifter handle on back in without the handle then ran thin guage piece of wire thru the hole in the wall down to that bolt. that allowed me to pull the shifter box up and thru the hole then i tied the wire to steering wheel to hold in place while installed screws this worked very well hope it helps someone else
