Default In Need of help - Meeting fishing companions

    Hello fellow tight liners,

I am trying to find a way to get a fishing companion, I am unable to do too much physically in the way of carrying all of the gear and equipment etc that it takes to get out on the water. But my love of fishing hasn't diminished at all. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can meet some folks who would be willing to go fishing with me, understanding that I wouldn't be doing much of the heavy lifting? However, I will pay for Ice, bait, boat rental gas etc etc.

There must be some fishing clubs in VA, right? Join one. You'll be surprised at how many folks are in the "same boat" as you are. Also, how about fishing forums in your own state?

I have met most of my friends who now fish with me (or me with them) by attending the many Crappie.com get togethers in my area and other areas. Find out when one in your state or area is scheduled, volunteer to help or bring items that will be needed, and show up ready to help. There are many things that go into putting such an event together that don't require heavy lifting or constant physical exertion. Make yourself available and you will quickly learn there are lots of folks associated in some way with this site who will be more than willing to become fishing buddies.

Word of caution: becoming a pest or pushy will not bode well for making new fishing partners. Give folks time to get to know you and it will happen. Sort of the "Build it and they will come" theory. Kinda like somebody coming on here asking for help on a new lake then asking for GPS coordinates to personal spots. That dog ain't gonna hunt.

Get on your state forum and introduce yourself & tell them about your plight. Your location and how far you're willing to travel would also be good info to share. Them 'ginny boys are good dudes, and they're scattered all over the state, so you've got a good chance of hookin up with some of them. They even have some get togethers/tourneys now & then. With Fall approaching, there may even be some more of them coming up, so just keep an eye on that forum. Luck2ya !!

Hit the local spots, I've met a bunch of good people just by doing that.
