I longline much of the time using cranks, spinners, beetlespins,I also do very well pulling black curly tail grubs.I don't spider rig much, mainly because I fish from a kayak, and my trolling motor pushes me too fas,but I have been successful paddling while spider rigging, but injuries prettymuch forced me to use a motor.
I too believe fish prefer lures / food passing certain directions, once I start catching,I always circle back and approach the same direction .

    Default Only Fishing One Direction

This is the first time that I've ever heard someone mention only catching fish while trolling one way. Very interesting.

Maybe it's because fish are holding on one side of something (structure, etc) for some reason (current, sunlight, anything really), and whenever rigs are pulled in the magic direction, it's pulled past the fish in such a way that they're able to pounce on the lure, rather than not seeing it coming or vice versa...?

I'm not sure, but it's still interesting..........

The "One way" theory has happened to me many times while trolling crankbaits. The place this happens to me is water with little deep water structure. The crappie school spends a lot of time on the move. My GUESS is that a crankbait coming toward the fish produce more strikes than coming through and away from the fish. Crappie are lazy when it comes to chasing food.
