Respect is key.
I've told everybody that goes with me "If you catch more fish than me, you wont be invited back" That usually does it.
Respect is key.

Pick up your trash or any/all trash in said boat. My inlaws/outlaws should read this.

That's a "hand me down" superstition from the early days of seafaring ships. Potential causes range from ships sinking from being overloaded with the fruit, the fast ripening of it causing the ships to have to make their journey so fast that they didn't have time to do much else, the ripening fruit creating toxic gases when decaying, to the potential for the Brazilian Wandering Spider (or its nest) to be hidden among the bunches ... and this spider is considered the most venomous spider in the world.
I still make an occasional trip on the water and have a banana along with a PBJ for lunch. Not sure if it's my run of good luck or just my supernatural fish catching abilities but it's been a long time since I been skunked.
