I agree with everyone on the strength and accuracy of a baitcaster and it is for sure worth learning to use one. I also use spinning tackle for certain presentation's. Speaking for myself, I prefer to use spinning for topwaters and other jerkbaits, for whatever reason I cant put the same action on them with my casting rod's. I also reel with my left hand on spinning and my right on baitcasters.
For light weight baits 1/4 ounce and under, I use a ultra light spinning reel on a light weight rod. Anything heavier or fishing heavy cover, then I switch to the baitcaster matched to the appropriate rod for the job.
I haven't really learned to use a BC yet.
For Crappie, I use a spincast.
For Bass, I use a spincast, but I also have a spinning reel or two for them.
I have all three type's of reels, been using my spinning gear the most.
I have a bait cast combo(so. bend concord 1) that i've been practicing in the back yard with, once i feel i've mastered the bait casting i plan on buying a nice set up and using all the time except while crappie fishing.

I love a bait caster, and I think I can cast one farther, maybe its because they are my more expensive reels, or maybe because you can loosen the tension on them, but I am never without a spinning rig.

i use spinning gear all the time.i can't use bait caster worth a darn
Unless I'm fishing light lures in open water (which is very rare) I'm a baitcaster all the way. However I know a lot of people who have caught a lot of fish on spinning gear. Its all about what ever your most comfortable with.
For lures under 1/4 ounce, I prefer spinning. For lures above 5/8 ounce, I prefer bait casting.
i was just getting ready to ask a question about this and i seen this thread. of course, me being lazy, i didnt read ALL of the post. i might be making a mistake in doing that because my question is,
which on is more beginner friendly? right now ive been looking for a good bass fishin' setup and i am lost on what to get. i have a Bass Pro shops rod, for medium-heavy type fishing i believe. it is stiff rod too, i was thinking about putting a baitcast reel on it. but i was just going to see what is more beginner friendly.
thanks guys!
