Default What is this??????

Yesterday I was out on the pond and notices that when I fished my spinnerbait as it got closer to the water's edge the surface would erupt over a fairly large area as if thousands of tiny fish fry were trying to flee the spinnerbait as it neared the edge. Could these be newly hatched bass or bream?? I'm in the Piedmont of N.C. and I'm just curious. Thanks

You were probably running it through a school of shad.
