    Default Toyota Frame Rusting

I own a Toyota Tundra that I bought new in 2005. Apparently a problem has been identified with potential corrosion of the frame in "cold climate areas" that use road salt. The recall indicated that I needed to take my truck in to a Toyota dealer to have it looked at and then the dealer would spray the areas with a "corrosion resistant compound" if needed. The problem is that the government will not allow the dealers to apply what ever it is that they were going to spray on to my truck frame. The dealer said that they would let me know when the they could do something about it. I was just wondering if anybody else had the same problem...

    Just venting.

I got a recall on my 2003 model for something along those lines. I took it in and they took the bed off and sprayed everything from the looks of it.

Moved thread to the new automotive subthread in the mech forum.

Sorry to hear about that...I would at least spary some rust convertor or krylon on it for now. Or get the trouble areas rhino or gatortrax lined and forget about it.

I have a 2002 tundra extended cab and they first called me in to do an inspection about 2 1/2 years ago and it looked fine. They issued another recall and I brought it back in and they sprayed a coat of rust proofing on the framework of the truck.
I was told the problem area was mostly at the cross member near the rear of the truck that the spare tire mounts to. I keep an eye on things when I do an oil change and am greasing the drive shaft. I think most of the trucks that have had problems are in the far northern part of the country where a lot of salt is used. I believe the paperwork I got from Toyota said they would repair the truck or even buy it back if the damage was severe.

I got a call from my dealer about this. It was 5 years ago for my 97 Tacoma I purchased new. They said if the frame had rusted. They would offer me 1.5 times the Kelly blue book price. I took it in and they found no rust.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

I had an '01 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 that got this recall. On my Tacoma, just like Pigpen says, if the frame was rusted then Toyota would give me 150% of bluebook value for my truck.

Dealer inspected it, and I got under there and looked while they did it. Lots of dirt and grime, but no rust at all.

Actually, that's no longer true. Received the recall notice & have the truck set to be inspected next month.

I have a 99 Toyota Tacoma and never knew there was a recall on the trucks. I bought it in 2007, last year I had a problem where the frame had rusted and collapsed where the leaf spring attached to the forward most part of the frame. If I would have known of the recall I would have taken it directly to a dealer, but I took it to a shop that removed the rusted piece and welded in a new section.

I finally took my Tundra in. They took the bed off and showed me that there were no rust issues. They sprayed the whole frame. They also re-sprayed the bed liner since they had to scrape parts of the old liner to get to the bolts. So I got a new bed liner out of the deal.
