Default Missouri Department of Conservation & Heritage Cards.

Ok so wife and I was in Bass Pro about 3 weeks ago decided to get our fishing license. Granted I did get one last year but it had been about 3 years since wife had gotten one. And before that she has gotten one every year since we have been married. So we have been married about 13 to 14 years now. She never carries her fishing license its always on me with my license because we fish together. So I have had a Heritage Card for years now! Makes it easy to get all my licenses. And its a pain for me to get her fishing licenses with Paula not having a Heritage Card. So I requested that she get one in Bass Pro so Paula asked the nice lady for one.

Now the kicker, got her card today, and her last name wasn't my last name! Her last name was the last name she had before we got married. Now we have gotten her fishing licenses all these years with my last name! So the paper that was attached to the card says "If you need to update your address or other information please call 573-522-4115 ext.3549." So we call, and we asked why wrong last name on wife's card? Well we get informed that my wife was supposed to inform the Department of Conservation of her getting remarried! What was the wife doing every time she went in to get a new fishing license? I remember her having to show her new drivers license with her new name when she got her first fishing license after we got married. So he tells us she will have a new card in about 3 weeks.

I realize today is Monday and everyone has a bad day. But I wish I would have gotten the guys name. Because after he kind of started getting smart when my wife was asking a question why wasn't her last name updated already? I would have been talking to his supervisor in the morning for sure. I guess the retailers that sell hunting and fishing licenses with Department of Conservation computers are not connected to the Departments computers in Jefferson City? Sure left a bad taste in both of our mouths over this deal.

It sure can be frustrating trying to fix someone else's mistake.
A few years back I invited a couple of guys from Kansas to go fishing at Pomme so they stopped at vendor down there to get permits. They also purchased some fishing pole and other stuff. One of them said to put everything on his credit card. They both showed him there Kansas Drivers Lic. The vendor printed out the two licenses and rang up the total. They paid him and met me at the dock and we started fishing.
Everything was good for the first hour or so. Then we were visited by Warden Vader. We all showed him our permits, mine was okay then he asked for their drivers licenses which they did. He then pulled out his ticket book and began writing. I asked him what he was doing. He informed me that they were trying to fish on Missouri permits and were both getting $100.00 tickets. They told him where they bought them and that they had showed the vendor both drivers licenses and felt they should not get tickets.
His response was he was issuing the tickets and that it was their fault for not checking that they had the proper permits...

I am surprised that Vadar didn't give you a ticket for just being with them!!! And from what I am understanding is Vadar's wife is just as big of a jerk as he is. His wife is the top dog at the Hickory County Health Department. She decided that the health department needed a new location, so she went and purchased a new location, without taking it to the Board of Directors or the County Commissioners. Then after she did that the new location needed some buildings taken down and some dirt work. Well all of that should have been put out for bids, well she didn't do that either!

Some of these agents need to find themselves standing in the unemployment line. The job is too big for them. Hard to get your mind around the fact that we pay their salaries.............

I'm sorry you all had problems, but lets not start a MDC bashing thread here. The vast majority of Conservation agents and employees are dedicated and professional at their jobs. They have a thankless job most of the time. I know that anytime I have a question, usually one phone call to the local office gets it answered in short order. I don't know the answer to the wrong information on the license's, but a computer only knows the data entered into it.

    Point well taken Speck.
I should have said that I was not trying to give the MDC a bad rap as I think that overall they do an outstanding job.

Yeah I didn't mean all agents are jerks there are a lot of very hard working folks in the department. What I didn't understand about the whole deal was that my wife had to contact the department after she had gotten married. I thought that when she applied for a new fishing license and gave her new married name I thought that was enough of a contact.

I know that I have had wonderful experiences with agents after I have hit deer and then donated the meat to someone in need.

Paula only wishes that the marriage isn't valid!!!
