Horseshoe or Burnt Cane
Has anyone fished either of these lakes lately. I know horseshoe is low, but it only concentrates the fish more in the deeper water. Trying to figure out which one to try this weekend. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

The report from Burnt Cane. Saturday was decent, considering the air temp hardly got above freezin'. I found them on the edge of the channel from 10-13' deep about 1' off the bottom. I also caught a few out over the channel 1' off the bottom. Seems as though they prefered small shiners. The bite was better in the afternoon. Water temp 44-45. Ended up with 20 all around 3/4lb each. Fished with my dad on Monday in the wind. Couldn't fish the spots from Sat, but did catch a few just before the wind picked up. Moved up the lake. 11-12' of water about 1' off the bottom. Caught about 15 in 30min. Spent the rest of the afternoon jiggin' shallow brush. Caught a 2.2lb crappie about 1' deep in 3' of water. Saw a ol' timer that was a regular out there. Said it was really slow and gave us the two that he had. Ended up with 20 all together.

Hey ceb,
Do you know if the AGFC allows camping at Burnt Cane? I know that there is not a designated campsite or anything, but wasn't sure of the reg's.

Were you trolling or just fishing deep structure?

Hey Brian, I don't know if they actually allow camping out there. But, I've seen a few campfire remains. Not any place to park a camper or tent, but there is one small grassy flat area. But like my grandfather tells me everytime I talk to him..."You know them folks out there will take your stuff." And everytime, I tell him that I refuse to allow worrying about my truck/trailer keep me from chasin' crappie. But just something to keep in the back of your mind if you decide to leave your "campsite" unattended...
And Mike, I was only slo-trolling on Saturday. On Monday, we slo-trolled and then went back and pole fished the spots of cover that we had marked. They are definately hanging on cover right now and deep within it. But, I have caught them before just roaming the channel.

Use to fish Burnt Cane when I lived in Wynne. I heard the same thing about stealing ever time I went, never had any problems. Was always relieved to see my trailer still there when I got back to the ramp. Miss fishing that place we use to do pretty good there single pole fishing with black/chartuese jigs.

The Arkansas Fishing Report says:
Horseshoe Lake: Local angler Clyde Gregory said the water is clear and high. Bream and crappie fishing is excellent on green and white or black and chartreuse jigs around piers. Catfishing is fair on worms
I'm surprised the report says the lake is high. I thought it was low, but I haven't been over there. I have heard some local reports that say the crappie fishing at Horseshoe has been super lately. Lots of big fish on the piers. I'll be scoring deer at the Sportshow at Jonesboro this weekend, or I'd be on Horseshoe or Burnt Cane. I think I've got MOST of the deer hunting out of my system, so after this weekend I plan to snatch some of those crappie out of that cold water!

Good point there CEB. Heck Brain if you want to come up here and fish just shoot a pm to me and i'll come over and watch your beer for you, just teasing. My brothers truck was keyed there last year, though his drunk butt may have parked wrong. My mother lives that way and it'll give me the opportunity to visit her also.

Hey Rusty! Long time man. Thinking about Old Town or Horsehoe/Burnt cane this weekend. What are your thoughts? I hope that you have been well.
