Well,
With Chris's pics on the board from Cane Creek, I decided to go out on the home lake (mound lake) & try to catch some papermouth's. The water is real low (still), 1-2 feet deep, and cypress trees are almost too shallow for me to fish! I fished for 4 hours this afternoon, and got shut out on the crappie. I hooked a green carp, and a couple of dink bream, but that's all. It was a beautiful day to fish, though.
The lake has a couple of spots that are 4-1/2 ft deep, but the majority of the lake is 1-2 ft deep. (even in the middle of the lake) Most of the cypress trees on the outside edge of the channel of the lake are in 6-12 inches of water, so it's real hard to fish it right now. I guess I'll have to wait for the wet season and hopefully another foot of rain will raise the lake up some. I may need to go down to cane creek with you guys to fish!
Hey randy,
I'm glad that you got to get back out on the water. You should take the opportunity to dig around that nice dock of yours. Create your own honey hole.:D
Chris,
I actually did that last year with a buddy's backhoe. You just get tired of looking at the same hole. I've been testing my "honey hole" for the last month. The crappie have been real funny. Always on the shadiest side of the cypress trees, not much action in brushpiles. They've have not been aggressive. barely biting the jigs, not biting swimbaits (tsunami) at all. I may hang out some yo-yo's sometime to see if they are spooked by the boat, but I don't think they are. I've been using a 10' jig pole (uncle buck) with very light action. I can tell when they even touch the line ( high vis). They will pick up that jig, and when you pick up on them, they let go. That's why I'm considering going to some other lake that they might be biting on. I noticed the river moving pretty well yesterday as I came across the 440 bridge, muddy & a wake on the navigation buoys. Got any suggestions for biting crappie on Friday? It's supposed to be beautiful!
Wow, I just checked the forecast on the river. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/abrfc/forecast.php?LITA4
It looks like the flow should top out today, then fall off for the rest of the week. I haven't fished the river with much flow yet. So, I really don't know what it would do to the fish in the Little Maumelle.
I think that I'll be heading back down south Friday. Are you off Friday? Gooch has buck on the brain, so I might as well let him be.:D
One other thing that I would try. I've heard it many times. If the fish are nipping at the bait, try down-sizing your bait. At least it's something to try.
Chris,
I am off on Friday. send me a pm if yo think you might go. I've never been on Cane Creek. Darryl says Hamilton's hot. Don't know. I might even try Clear lake in England. It costs $5 bucks to launch, but it's close. I would use $5 in gas to get to cane creek, & it will take a little time to get there, too. I've got the batteries chargin' right now, so I'm gonna go Friday.... somewhere.
Hey Randy, You'll catch some nice fish if you come down here with Ceb. Some good fishing going on down here.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.
