Sounds like your hard efforts fighting the wind really paid off congrats and thanks for the post.
I have finally found someone who is on Erling! Here is the deal. I am having a forester check out a tract of land offered by Kingwood Forestry--google: Lake Erling tract #5. It is about 68 acres and mostly timber and bottom land at the very end of the cove where 160/53 cross and off Keoun (sp?) Creek Road.
Seller claims lake access and about 9 acres "in the lake" and my forester will check that out. But you are the man to tell me:
(1) How shallow is it in there? At the very end. Is it a mudflat in dry weather or can a bass boat get in there year-round?
(2) It looks so low in there. Can a house be built or is the land too low with no perk for septic?
(3) Is that stream going into the lake year-round?
I sure would appreciate your opinion on this. I have a camp on Toledo Bend lake but am looking for timber investment as well as lake access. That brings me to beautiful Lake Erling!
I am a small town boy that loves the woods and water. I will retire soon and get out of Florida and back to God's country.
Last thing. Is there a place to stay at Bass Haven Resort? I have never been to the area--my timber interests have been up at Camden. But will get up there in the Spring.
May have to buy the land sight-unseen with my forester's advice and pics. But your input would really be of help! Check out the google site and tell me if Kingwood Forestry--the selling agent--is telling the truth.
God Bless,
Kurt Grussendorf.
thats what i like to hear. your efforts payed off!
A good day despite the wind, thanks for the report.
A bad day of fishing

noslab, I fished for 2 hours @ Blackwells and caught 6 nice males Saturday. All caught on shiners @ 10-12 feet.
