As I was getting fuel in the boat at Morgan after leaving Maumelle Saturday morning....I ran into a couple of Fellers that had a nice crappie rig and seemed as ready to hit the water as I was...Asked them if they were going up to Gold Creek, they said no...too many folks there now a days. I must agree...the fishing pressure is through the roof at the pool. They said they were going to Little Mamuelle River...I got to thinkin as they drove off, if I should just follow them there too. I didn't...But I wonder how good they did. I have only caught a few Crappie up thereon only a few trips...but I have heard if you go way up the river it's good.
Does anyone have any advise about this Little Maumelle River on the Crappie??? Would love to fish it more....
I did go on up to Gold Creek...worked my butt off deep and shallow to bring home 12 nice keepers with jigs. Knocked the hide off 'em and put them in the freezer. It seemed pretty slow...we need it to get COLD....
PM ceb and ask him about Little Maumelle, because when he was going to school in Little Rock he wore them out there. I think LittleRockJoe fishes there also.
I've done OK there fishing the mouth near the bridge, but its high and very shallow in places. Not a problem for my rig, I can run in 7" of water, but a real problem for a deeper draft.
I've also fished well up the river and have had mixed luck. I tear the bream up, but the crappie... that's another story. I think CEB had the right idea. I think he and Gooch would stick close to the mouth and work that area spider rigging. I've been doing the Gold Creek thing just to meet others and learn that area. It'll get less popular as soon as someone posts a place near Central AR that is just as hot.
Speaking of which, we haven't had a report from Nimrod lately. Hint. Hint.
Quit complaining about the color, just pull up your skirt and fish! -- snagged
The water levels upstream have been very low. Almost too low to fish. I quit fishing the LMR about a year ago. The water was so up and down that I could not get into a pattern. I fished the mouth of the LMR as well, but the same thing with the water.
The best place that I have found to fish is way upstream on the LMR. There is a lake in The Ranch (housing sub-division). You can reach the lake by going up the LMR and winding back into the lake off of a channel. You can see it on Google Earth. The lake is just like the pool at Conway. It has some very big fish, but you will need a shallow running boat to get there with the water as low as it is in the LMR.
If you have a depth finder it will help. When you get into the lake, head straight for the covered boat dock after you go under the RR track. As you are going to it watch your finder. You will see that there is a big drop from about 6ft to 12ft. That ledge goes east and west. On that ledge is a ton of brush. If you fish that ledge, you will catch fish.
