Crooked Creek Tragedy
Sunday evening about 5 pm, my daughter-in-law's brother went swimming at Kelly Slab on Crooked Creek in Yellville. The creek was swollen from recent rain on Saturday. He went into the water around the outfall area of three 4 foot tubes that take water under a lowwater bridge. The creek was about 18 inches over the slab. He went down and did not come back up. We spent a prayerful night on the bank while divers from Marion County Rescue, Baxter County Rescue and others searched the area for him. The search was called off about 12 am due to dark, murkey water, and exhaustion of the divers. They went back at it Monday morning as we all waited, fearing the worst, on the hill above the slab. At 1245 the Marion County Sheriff told us that Josh had been found about 300 yards downstream from where he went in.
Guys, never take water for granted, it can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Dont cross low water bridges that are under water and especially don't try to swim in a swollen creek. This death was a tragedy for our whole family and it was also a needless waste of a young life. Josh will be forever 21 years old. Be careful out there.
