Default A few more borrow pit crappie (pics)

I went back to the borrow pit near work, and caught a few today. No slabs, but a fun day and a mess of crappie. Caught them on jigs with blue and chartruese tube, pumped with nibbles. Caught in about 8 fow 5-6 ft. deep.

One white crappie and the rest black.

Nice catch out of a pit. I understand the black crappie do better then the white in a small area.

A borrow pit is a place they borrowed dirt to build the levees, hence the name borrow pits. Most people call them barpits. They get refreshed with fish when the river gets high like the Mississippi did this year, and leaves some good fishing in some of them.

Them must be some hugh, deep pits to substain crappie during the summer months. Do you fish 'em from the bank or are they large enough for a jon boat?

Congrats on a good mess of fish for dinner too.

Lookin' good Jerry. What no roadrunner? Didn't think you had any regular jig heads in your box...

Will be headed down there pretty soon to do some fishin'. I'll give you a shout and maybe we can go hunt a few down. Be sure to stay after them bar pit crappie, and being near work, you should be able to fit in a little lunch break fishin'...
