Default How Many of you Guys Eat Bluegills??

Just wondering how many Az. guys actually eat thier fish.I love them. It's like grabbing a bag of chips sometimes.I've been eating them whole with the pectorial fin removed and the back split down to the back bone.Meat just pulls loose in a slab.4 1/2 inchers are too,too hard to fillet. And there are billions of them out there.

Folks claim that bluegills taste real good. Of course folks say the same thing about crappie, catfish and walleye. The only kind of fish I like to eat is sashimi
with some soy sauce, wasabe and an ice cold Asahi.... now your talking.

Whenever I have just a few hours to fish, I take my boys and neices and we head to the ponds close to the house and catch those little bluegill. I never thought of eating them because I figured they wouldn't have much meat so we just throw them back. The only ones we keep are the big bluegill that you can fillet. I am going to start keeping those smaller ones to give them a try.

I have a question kinda off the subject. The bluegill that we catch have yellow tips on their fins, neon blue lines around the head area and they have a big mouth where you can actually lip them. I call them bluegill but what are they really? Anyone know?

The big mouth seems to describe a "red-eye" or a warmouth bass. You
can check pics on google to see which one fits your catch best! Both
    are fine eating.

Thank you Cricket George. All I can say is those sunfish are beautiful and they can sure swallow a big bait. We have a blast catching them with the little kids.
