Hi KCBH,
What's up?...I am doing good...I am going fishing this Saturday and I am going to give the bobber a try...Do you wrap the line around the slot on the bobber?....Or do you just lay the line in the slot and pull the fuel line over it?
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
No i havent but i sure will now.
"Or do you just lay the line in the slot and pull the fuel line over it?"
Yep, just wet the fuel line, put the fishing line in the slot and pull the FL up over it. It will hold it in place and if you want to change depths all you have to do it hold on the the line and pull the bobber up or down.
You should test and see if you have the right balance close to shore. Pull the jig down about 2' and put it in the water. If the bobber stands up, you have too much weight on the jig.
Are you going to use 1/64 oz jig heads and tube jigs? You should the 1st time out, at least until you get it figured out.
(You know if anyone of you want me to I will mail you one "setup and tested" for what it costs to make and ship it. )

Thanks for sharing this info. It has been a very interesting thread. When you first posted it I tried to fix up a couple of bobbers but never quite got the balance right.
This technique reminds me of a similar tactic I saw a fellow using on the Walnut Creek (running into Toronto Lake) one winter. He was using the round styrofoam bobbers with a lead weight on them. He would set the depth so the jig would just clear the brush and cast over it then slowly reel it in, letting it set then twitching it, letting it set as he reteived it to the boat. My friend and I tried to duplicate this with our slip bobbers withkout any success. That evening we purchased some of those round bobbers with the wieight and tried it the next day with no success.
Even though your method is a visual strike indicator as compared to, my favored tactile strike indicator with the thump from tightlining I would like to add this to my limited arsenal of tactics for pursuing crappie.
If by chance you fish Hillsdale Lake and run across a fellow fishing out of a 16ft Red Lund with a Merc 60 horse tiller steer I would like to see your bobbers and just how they set on the water and how you work them.
Thanks

sweet technique buddy thanks for the heads up ill have to give this a go when im in shawnee national park area next weekend for a fishing trip.

The only way I can see a slip bobber approach is to take a sinker heavier than the jig and attach it at the top of the slip bobber. Any sinker with a hole throughout it should work allowing the line to free flow through the sinker attached to the top of the bobber. Great work and great idea.
I've done all the fishing I want to do, I'm into the catching.
I have tried that.....actually are jigs are so light thier is no need to modify a bobber. Just use a #8 glow-strike jig and a small crappie minnow and hang on.

I got your "tested" bobber done tonight. I caught and released 10 crappies or so with it. After I got home I cut the line off about 10" above the bobber. I will drop it in the mail tomorrow.
BTW-I use 4lb silver thread fishing line.
Good luck and tell me how you like it after you get to fish it a few times.
they make them just like that for ice fishing...........
