Campell-Snodgrass 2009 Ultimate Challenge Champions!

The Clinton, Missouri CVB and Bucksaw Marina hosted the second Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Ultimate Challenge. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Mercury Motors, Minn Kota, Humminbird Spike It and Toyota 168 anglers competed fishing with one pole each and artificial bait only. The teams launched or trailered both days from Bucksaw Marina & Resort on Truman Lake. The tournament was filmed by Cody & Cody Revive the Outdoors for airing on Directv 608 Pursuit channel at a later date. The tournament brought in some of the best weights ever at Truman events.
Bill Campbell-Mike Snodgrass were named the 2009 Ultimate Challenge. Bill Campbell may have become the most senior champion ever also as he turned 78 years of age this year. On day one the team finished 4th weighing in seven fish for 11.27 lbs. On day two they almost reproduced the weigh with a 10.92 lb. weight. Their two day total was 22.19 lb wich was just enough to take the crown. They earned $6000.00 for their first place finish.
The team stated they used BnM Poles and Ozark Rods fishing in the grand area. They fished mostly 8-10 foot deep in 13 foot waters. Their choice of jig was Road Runner black/chartreuse. They seemed to catch best fish in the morning and was fishing hedge rows all day.
Jeff Lewis-Steve Burnworth took second place after finishing day one in fifth place with a total of 11.07 lbs. On day two they weighed in 10.80 lbs for a total weight of 21.87. They earned $3000.00 for second place. The team stated they weren’t real confident about day two as they fished the Grand arm. They stated they fished 7-15 foot deep. They stated the morning was good then got slow and picked back up in afternoon. They fished with Rocky Top heads and Bobby Garland blue/chartreuse jigs on Ozark Rods.
Day one leaders Mike Loman-Robert Jones took the top spot with 11.67 lbs. On day two they couldn’t reproduce the same quality fish weighing in 9.48 lbs. for a two day total of 21.15. Third place earned them $1500.00 They used Fire Cast rod and reels, Bass Pro premium xl line, black/chartreuse Southern Pro and Road Runners. They fished 8-12 foot deep right in the brush, stating the morning was most productive the first day and the afternoon was the second day.
Bass Pro Shops pro staff Mr. Crappie, Wally Marshall-Jeff Heuman was in the hunt after day one having finished 2nd with a 11.54 lbs. Day two they weighed in 9.48 lbs for a two day total of 21.02. Fourth place earned $1400.00. Mr. Crappie stated they fished hard as they ever. After placing 4th in 2008 Wally stated is was good to placed 4th again against this group of anglers. They used Wally Marshall rods and reels, crappie thunder, lime/chartreuse jigs then went to blue and white jigs.
2008 defending champions Kevin Rogers-Charles Rogers were in ninth place after day one weighing in 10.82 lbs. On day two they weighed in 10.19 for a two day total of 21.01 lbs taking home 5th place and $1300.00. The defending champions stated they did not finesse fish, they were power fishing for big crappie only using 10 foot Outlaw Poles, 20lb line, ¼ inch head and three inch, black/hot pink Gene Larew Bobby Garland Slab Slayers.
The remaining top 10 was Vicious, BnM Pole, Tundra team of Charles Bunting-Travis Bunting who was in 23rd place after day one with 10.00 lbs and moved up on day two with 10.46lbs. for a total of 20.46 and sixth place overall worth $1200.00. Don Brooks-Allen Morgan was 8th after day one with 10.95 lbs. On day two they weighed in 9.40 for a total of 20.35lbs and seventh overall worth $1150.00. Marty Snider-Jackie Albin took 11th on day one with 10.63 lbs and on day two weighed 9.56 for a total of 20.19 lbs giving them eighth overall and $1100.00. Overall ninth place was team Rick Koll Steve-Ingram who were 16th after day one with 10.38lbs. They weighed in a day two weight of 9.73 lbs for a two day total of 20.11 lbs earning $1050.00. Tenth place overall was Albert Melcher-Kelly Whitaker who were 15th on day one with 10.47 lbs. On day two they weighed in 9.42 lbs for a total of 19.89 earning $1020.00.
Big fish was 2.05 lb crappie caught on day one by team Bob Schouten and Bill Claypole who finished 38th with a two day total of 17.68. The team won $588.00 for big fish.
Top Male-Female honors went to Vicious/BnM pole team of Jim and Barbara Reedy. The teams two day total was 16.08 lbs and earned them a Minn Kota trolling motor.
Top adult Adult-Youth team went to Tony and Jakob Burnworth. The father-son team finished with a two day total of 16.73 lbs earning them a Minn Kota trolling motor.
Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters paid back $1000.00 at 11th place and cash to 20th place and prizes to 25th place for over $27,000.00 in cash and prizes.
Next up on the tournament trail is Lake Rathbun, Centerville, IA on June 13. This is a one day national qualifier and grass roots event.
