I went to a certain lake today and fished for bass from about 8-12 in the morning. I caught 2 fish, one 12 incher and one 8 incher. Both came on spinnerbaits. Teh 12 incher i caught in about a foot of water. The othe rwas in about 10-12 feet. I got about 5 short strikes. I was using chartruese spinnerbaits. I tried using a smaller spinnerbait and a white spinnerbait but i kept getting short strikes. Any ideas of what was going wrong or what i should have used. The water was dark if that helps.

use a trailer hook maybe, or something that has a slower presentation

Try the trailer hook(use red), and speed up then stop the spinnerbait and repeat, what you were getting is called a reaction strike.When you pause the bait you will get the fish to inhale it.
