Sardis Storm

Just a tip,
If a storm is coming while you are on the lake. Go immediately to the nearest bank, get out of the boat, and HUNKER DOWN!! DO NOT, I mean DO NOT try to out run it cuz you WONT. We got caught up in the storm that came across Sardis this past Saturday around noon. I do not think i have ever been more scared in my life. Winds howling 30+, Lightning, HEAVY rain, and hail. We thought we had it out ran until it took a hard turn East and came straight down the lake. The boat ramp was a straight shot from where we were but when the rain hit we thought we got off track somehow and were heading up the middle of the lake. We kept going straight and finally caught the glimpse of some trees so we headed that way and luck be it that it was the boat ramp. I was glad to hit that ground. Situations like that make you reaccess what you have in the boat. Our new addition will be a compass for sure and maybe a tarp or something to cover up when we hunker down and wait out the next storm.

GPS is the way to go with lake maps. I have started carryin a rain suit in my boat full time just for that situation and also to try to avoid WB's POO slingin fits.:D

Man yeah. Most of the times past when I've nearly sunk a boat were from
"tryin to beat it to the ramp"

The last time I did that, had the bright idea to hug the West bank
of Bay Springs which runs North/South
(wind coming out of the West) and go to the ramp (South)

Worked fine till I had to cross the mouth of a big bay and all of a sudden
the wind had a half mile or so to whip up waves instead of 100'
When I realized I done messed up, water started coming over the side
into my lap, and had to decide real quick what to do because I wasn't
gonna make it with the original plan.
Turned downwind and got on top of a wave, stopped taking water,
but now I was headed out into the middle of the lake where I sure didn't
want to be. Finally managed to veer left and get back into the lee enough
I could pull over to the bank and wait it out.

butla glad to hear ya'll at least made it in safely. Back when I was fishing bass tournaments I went thru several storms like that and you are right it will scare the WB POO out of you
