Been there once fishing for bass couldn't buy a bite.never been back.
I was wondering if you have ever been to a pit off I-49 north of opelousas
it was once a break area. Been there once and actually caught a limit and never been back.
Anyone out there fish at chicot lake regularly. I went once this year right after the spawn and could not locate anything but small 6 inch sacalait. Where will they be around Sept/Oct. It is a beautiful lake that I would like to fish more.

You caught a limit of sacalait in the lake next to that new Rest Stop to the right of I-49 North?Originally Posted by sacalait steve

Deacon if they built a new rest area there then that is the one it is about
15 to 20 minutes north of opelousas on the right there is a nice landing
and the pit sorta forms an "s" shape this was about 7 years`ago. we caught
them on the opposite bank of the landing to the left in the curve of the "s" shape ,there is a drain there that was working good and they were stacked up . there was a boat we could see trolling around in circles out in the middle
I later found out from the guy who told me they were biting there that there is a large hump there. the boat we saw was making circles about40 yards by
20 yards.I also heard not to go after alot of rain cause I-49 drains into it
and the water gets high and clay colored in a short time.

Boy, I don't know you do it. You could catch fish in your bath tub. Who, in their right mind would have ever thought they would have had fish in that lake. Who turned you on to this spot? I know they have a lot of the Jet ski's in there. That's one more spot for me to remember.Originally Posted by sacalait steve

Chicot park has lots of great fish. Only a couple of weeks ago, a 10 and 13 pound bass were caught there. There are lots of sacalait, but there is so much cover, sometimes they are hard to find. I usually hunt in the fall, so I really don't know where to tell you to try.
Thanks for the info on the name of the lake. I may make another trip there soon.

Now that Labor Day is here and about gone, the pleasure boaters should about stop and the fishing will be a more pleasurable. I've seen this lake from the interstate and wondered if it would be any good. Thanks for the tip.---Pooch
